Module Itinerary

Stop 1: Explore how mummies are made and their significance to different cultures around the world.
Stop 2: Explore the SlOP elements and the use of big books as an effective EL strategy for instruction. Then explore and reflect on the use of digital collaboration tools to support learning.

Stop 3: Explore STEMSS lessons and learn about the different components that make up an effective lesson. Share what you have learned by thinking about big books and collaborating with others.
​
Stop 4: Reflect on all that you have learned, and then brainstorm activity ideas on mummies. Create an activity outline including subject integration, technology and EL strategies.

Keep in mind this Module is in draft form, and we are looking for your valuable input to help us make it an effective learning tool for teachers. In this Module, we are focusing on technology and big books as teaching and learning strategies. Participants will be able to:

Distinguish between the different types of mummies.

Describe the steps used in making a mummy.

Explain the significance of mummies to different cultures and why they’re important to the people.

Describe the science behind how a mummy is preserved and stays preserved for so long.

Use a social media platform to share a newly discovered resource and ‘AHA’ moments with others competing this module.

Create and share a big book idea to reflect what was learned from exploring a STEMSS lesson.

Using social media, reflect on and discuss ideas about strategies learned in Stops 2 and 3.

Stop 4: Brainstorm, Collaborate and Create

Discuss the benefits of teacher and student collaboration using technology.

Collaborate on ideas and resources for creating a STEMSS lesson to teach about Mummies, using technology, and EL strategies including content and academic language development.
